Why I Chose to Slow Down and Savor Summer

As an entrepreneur, it can be easy to take on too much. I love the excitement of meeting new clients and the final results after installation, so my calendar is filled up before I know it. But, as we all know, there is too much of a good thing - which is why I’m writing this blog.

As 3rdGenBlinds has grown over the years, I have more flexibility as an entrepreneur, mom and wife. As my husband and I raise our girls, we recognize that milestones only happen once and our kids won’t stay these ages forever. This is why we have become more intentional with how we spend our time as a family.

Summer is one of our family’s favorite seasons. So, as spring lent its way to summer this year, I wanted to be acutely aware of how I spent my time. With support from my clients, I was fortunate to pull back a little and make every moment count over the last few months.

Would my girls remember their summers with me in my home office or would they remember their summers at Cape May, camp, the zoo or riding horses instead? I think we all know the answer.

One of the many reasons I love my clients is they support me as an entrepreneur and a working mom. They know what flexibility, patience and empathy means to parents and I am grateful to be on the receiving end of their support. I can pause my day to run errands, enjoy an activity with the girls or watch Zoey do one of her favorite things: horseback riding.

Thankfully, I had the support to give my family an amazing summer, so that’s what I did. And as a result, it was a summer full of being in the moment and savoring our time together.

Now, as summer is coming to a close and we’re heading back to school, I’m reflecting on a season filled with love, joy and adventure.

In addition to spending the summer trying to make sure everyone is having a good time (sound familiar?), I have also been trying to take more time to myself, filling my cup and making sure I do more of what brings joy to my life. Knitting, reading, organizing and decluttering (yes, that oddly brings me so much joy!) are just a few of the things that I enjoy once the girls are tucked into bed.

Thank you for being on this journey with us and for your support over the past six ( I CAN’T BELIEVE IT) years!

We are so grateful for YOU!
