Plantation Shutters: Furniture for Your Windows

I’m a sucker for the timeless look of plantation shutters. They are highly durable, low maintenance, classy, elegant, sophisticated and go with any design. Plantation shutters are truly a dream home improvement. (And not as expensive as you’d think!)

Working in the window-treatment industry, I love the different terms and phrases we use to describe our products. A lot of people in my industry call plantation shutters “furniture for your windows.” If you think about it, that is a great way to describe them. Plantation shutters are sturdy like a quality furniture piece and have that same eye-catching charm as a beautiful coffee table or handsome bookshelf.

When I discuss plantation shutters with my 3rdGenBlinds clients, I always tell them ‘These shutters will outlive you in the home.’ If that sounds extreme, remember that the average American moves 11.7 times in their lifetime! (I can’t believe it either!)

Another reason why I love installing plantation shutters in clients’ homes is how versatile and simple they are. Plantation shutters literally go with any type of design - from mid-century modern to contemporary - and their timeless look means you don’t need to jazz up your shutters with draperies, valances or anything else. And, as a nice bonus for our Pennsylvania winters, plantation shutters are in the top quarter of the most insulating window treatments. Likewise, they are great at blocking the sun during hot months.

Plantation shutters have been a popular staple for 3rdGenBlinds clients since I started this business in 2016. I think what people like about them is they are clean, sophisticated, consistent and low maintenance.

The most you have to do to clean your plantation shutters is give them a light dusting. There’s no going wrong when timeless elegance and simple maintenance merge.
